During the lull period between Christmas and New Year’s, Steph and I have begun to enjoy our Christmas gifts. Steph got me a FitnessFirst membership, so I can stay big and strong. I got Steph a new leather purse, so she can carry around her things while looking fashionably savvy. I don’t know the first thing about purses, but Steph made it a little easier by providing me with a list of essential purse criteria. Even knowing exactly what she wanted, I stood in front of a wall of purses completely bewildered. Somewhat confidently, I was finally able to make a selection, and proceed to the check-out counter. I reassured myself that everything would be okay. I’d just hold onto the receipt, and if she didn’t approve, she could return it for the purse of her choice.
I waited patiently in the check-out line. I was next in line when I see it; the sign informing customers of the store’s return policy, or lack thereof. There was no going back. No sooner did I have the chance to process this information before the store clerk exclaimed, “Can I help whose next?” It was my time to shine. I took a deep breath, stepped forward, whipped out my credit card, and purchased the damn thing. Later I was tempted to pick up a card and write inside: Merry Christmas! Hope you enjoy your gift… if you don’t, too bad. I thought otherwise. As it turned out, there was no need to worry. Steph loves her new purse.
Steph and I have just finished our first month abroad, and looking back we have no regrets. Each day has presented us with new challenges, the opportunity to see new things, learn about another country and its people, and share new experiences. In light of the New Year, we have compiled a selection of photos and composed a short slideshow/video entitled Australia 2010. We hope you enjoy, and we wish you all a happy New Year!
